Article Entry: After selling my first pillow, I told myself if I sold more I would invest in some labels to give my pillows a more professional look. Ever since Etsy changed its format to relevancy instead of most recent, I've gotten a lot more views on my pillows and was able to sell a few more of them. I decided to order the labels from Etsy and help a fellow Etsian? I found a seller named HobbyTime from France that sold them for a good price and low minimums. I didn't want to invest hundreds of dollars or  order hundreds of labels to start off with so I thought what HobbyTime had to offer suit what I was looking for (Bonus! My labels would be made in France). I looked at her reviews and they were all positive. I figured if she had over one-thousand positive reviews - she must be good! I placed my order and sent her a generic image of how I wanted my label to look like since I didn't know the format it needed to be in. The next day she replied and told me that the text would be clearer if I gave her the name of the fonts and she retyped them in her program. After she finished she sent me a preview of the label. I am pretty particular with things being done correctly so I had a few changes that needed to be made. The most important was the typo (Beatiful instead of Beautiful). I also felt the flower was too squished with the fonts which made it look messy. When she sent the second preview it still did not look right. I initially wanted it printed on 1.5" ribbon but she informed me that she was low on that size and would print my label on 1.25" ribbon so I decided to remove the slogan on the bottom. I also noticed that my flower icon was larger than it should have been and asked her to make it smaller. I sent an image of exactly the way I want it so she would not get it wrong again (Turquoise lines are the margins for sewing). I did not hear from her for a few days. I finally decided to message her and check to see if my preview was done. In a few hours I receive this response, "hi it is on his way...thanks." What?!? I didn't even see the final preview and okay it! I was worried but I thought maybe the image I sent was good enough for her to get it right. It arrived relatively fast (5 business days). I opened up the package immediately when I got home and I was soooo disappointed! She did remove the slogan like I asked but for some strange reason my flower icon was floating way above the text. I couldn't believe that after sending the exact layout that it still couldn't be done correctly. I did not leave her a bad review on Etsy since I do not believe in harming someone's business (although I doubt one bad review out a thousand positives would make a difference). I decided to just not leave a review at all but to blog about it. I know I can be a difficult customer since I am somewhat of a perfectionist. I figure this is a fair way for buyers to decide if I am a high maintanence buyer or if she was just a lazy seller. I plan on using the labels since I do not want to just throw them away. They are not exactly how I want them but they are not so far off that make them unusable. It is a little difficult to sew because the flower is so high up which makes the sewing margin smaller than it should be. I will never buy from this seller again. This experience has aggrevated me so much that I actually bought my own ribbon printing machine. I am not sure if I will offer label printing services for other buyers on Etsy or if I am just going to use it for my pillows. My ribbon printer should be arriving tomorrow so I am pretty excited to get it. The only thing is that it doesn't have the software and I have to find out how to get it. I am hoping I can just use photoshop to print the ribbons. We'll see what happens when I get the ribbon printer tomorrow... -----Yafei----- 09/14/11
